Celtic have reportedly opened talks with Right Back

Celtic have reportedly been in talks with Sheffield United right back George Baldock, with an initial approach made on Tuesday.

Despite having one year left on his contract and the Blades securing promotion to the English Premier League, the defender is interested in hearing what the Scottish champions have to say.

The 26-year-old made 27 appearances last season for Chris Wilder;s side as they finished second in the English Championship.

With Swedish defender Mikael Lustig set to leave this summer after the end of his contract, Neil Lennon is needing the strengthen his right back position ahead of the Champions League qualifiers.

Despite bidding around £5 million for Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne in the January transfer window, the right back is now a regular for the Serie A side who qualified for the Champions League this season and has interest from Milan, Napoli and Roma as well.

Luton Town’s James Justin was another potential target, but that move looks to be dead and buried with the news that Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City side are trying to hijack the deal by move for the promising full back.

Baldock started his career with MK Dons, before loan spells with Northampton, Tamworth and Oxford, before signing for the Blades in June 2017 - making 65 appearances and scoring twice.
