Celtic keeper Scott Bain out for up to six weeks

Celtic keeper Scott Bain is expected to be out of action for up to six weeks, according to manager Neil Lennon, after dislocation his thumb during the Champions League defeat to Cluj last week.

Craig Gordon was called up to replace Bain in the 2-1 win over Dunfermline for the Betfred Cup tie and the former Hearts and Sunderland keeper donned the goalie gloves for last night’s Europa League play-off first leg tie against AIK Stockholm - but was rarely called into action by the Swedish side.

The 27-year-old former Dundee keeper will also miss Scotland’s double header with Russia and Belgium - although Steve Clarke preferred David Marshall between the sticks in his first two games as Scotland manager.

Meanwhile, former Celtic number one Fraser Forster has returned to the club on a season-long loan deal from Southampton [who bought the shot stopper in 2014 for £10 million] and will provide welcome competition to Gordon and Bain [when he returns from injury] after the departure and retirement of Dorus de Vries at the end of last season.
