Celtic to face Lazio, Rennes & CFR Cluj in Europa League

After Celtic convincingly put AIK Stockholm to the sword on Thursday night, the Scottish champions learned their Europa League fate as they were drawn with Lazio, Stade Rennes, and CFR Cluj in Group E.

Celtic have never faced Lazio in competitive action, while they faced Rennes in 2011 with Celtic beating them at Celtic Park 3-1 and drawing the away leg 1-1. Both teams recently played one another in a pre-season friendly this summer with the game ending 0-0.

Neil Lennon’s side will also face Romanian champions CFR Cluj who knocked Celtic out of the Champions League, before they too were knocked out at the play-off stage by Sparta Prague.

Following the draw, manager Neil Lennon said: “it’s a great draw. A couple of glamour games and the chance for some retribution against Cluj.

“Lazio is a great draw. A trip to Rome is something everyone will look forward to. I think we can make an impact in the group.”
