Salty tears from Rapid Vienna as boss bemoans Boli sale

After Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo impressed on his debut during Celtic’s first leg clash against FK Sarajevo in the first qualifying round of the Champions League, Rapid Vienna boss Dietmar Kuhbauer has claimed the left back’s departure has ruined his plans for the season.

Signed from Rapid for a fee of £3 million earlier this month, the Belgian played 57 minutes in Celtic’s 3-1 win over Sarajevo before going off injured.

However, Kuhbauer has claimed that Boli is ‘proving to be difficult to replace’, he said: "We worked so hard last season on a 3-5-2 system, but the loss of Boli Bolingoli has hurt us terribly.

"He would have raced up the left wing like a rocket in this system. He's a massive loss. And he is proving to be incredibly difficult to replace. Any time we want to look at a player, it seems his value goes up by hundreds of thousands because the selling club knows we have money.

"Boli has left a big hole in our team."

It is expected Boli will be back for Celtic’s second leg clash against the Bosnian champions on Wednesday after being rested for Celtic’s pre-season friendly against Rennes which finished 0-0.
