Celtic in talks to sign Sergio Quintero

Ecuador World Cup Under-20 star Sergio Quintero is in advanced talks with Celtic with a potential move set to be sealed later this week.

The 20-year-old defensive midfielder starred for Ecuador, scoring once in five games, as they reached the Semi Finals of the competition this summer, defeating Timo Weah’s USA side 2-1 on the way to the last four.

Neil Lennon’s side are just one of several clubs in Europe interested in signing the player from imbabura SC in Ecuador, but Quintero - who is keen on a switch to Europe - has admitted that a move to Glasgow is now at an advanced stage.

He said: "I'm thinking about a move to European football. I'm trying to be calm about it and take it easy. The representatives of Celtic have been in talks for some time with the president of Imbabura.

"An agreement has to be reached this week if the transfer is to go through.

"But if the deal doesn't go through I am relaxed because I have offers from other clubs in Europe and Ecuador. It's important to make the best decision for me.

"It would be very difficult to adapt to life in a country like Scotland, but with time I think I would be able to settle in.
