Celtic close in on Bolton's Luca Connell
Celtic are closing in on their second signing of the summer window with an official approach for Bolton defender Luca Connell, according to reports in England.
After breaking into the Bolton first team back in January, Connell made 12 appearances attracting interest from clubs north and south of the border.
Rangers had initially been linked with a move for the Irish defender, but Celtic now look to be the front runners to the 18 year old’s signature - who is now out of contract with Bolton who are currently in administration.
Unlike clubs in England, Celtic will only need to pay around £240,000 to sign Connell as part of the FIFA compensation scheme.
The highly-rated teenager was recently called up to the Republic of Ireland squad for a training camp in Portugal this year.
If Connell does sign for the Scottish champions it is highly unlikely that the 18-year-old will play for the first team this season, rather playing for the Reserves or being farmed out on loan to secure valuable and regular first team football.
