Celtic's Champions League opponents face player unrest

Celtic’s first round Champions League qualifying opponents FK Sarajevo are facing a player revolt over unpaid wages.

The FK Sarajevo players were expected to fly to their pre-season training camp today, but the players refused to travel due to them not receiving wages over a number of months.

A club statement read: “In the midst of the change of majority owner of the management rights of FK Sarajevo, he faces a sporadic bureaucratic procedure due to financial transactions from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has been intensively resolved in the previous period.”

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan sold Sarajevo in March 2019 to Vietnamese businessman Nguyễn Hoài Nam.

The statement added: “Taking into account the greater amount of money and the fact that it is sent for the first time to a club account, when sending money from the Vin group, these administrative procedures took place because the verification process is much longer than expected.

“Due to the lack of trust between the banks of Vietnam - Bosnia, the funds sent by the majority owner of the management rights for a certain period of time are not available, or they can not lie in the club account, which resulted in a delay in salaries for all employees.

“The final solution of the situation is expected during the day, at the latest by tomorrow, and we thank all employees for their trust and professionalism.

“Realising that our employees are accustomed to receiving their salaries and bonuses on a regular basis, FK Sarajevo apologises in advance for the periods imposed by the aforementioned circumstances.

“The departure for the Slovenia training camp scheduled for today on June 20th will be realised after the successful payments to employees, but also other administrative duties such as resolving visas for the scheduled trip to Scotland in the near future.”
