Celtic's latest signing Hatem Abd Elhamed determined to prove his worth

Celtic’s latest addition to the squad, Hatem Abd Elhamed, was unveiled at half time during last night’s 5-0 thumping of Nomme Kalju and has stated he is determined to prove his worth at the Scottish champions.

His signing was met with a mixed reaction from Celtic supporters, but after walking out onto the Celtic pitch last night, the Israeli international is now motivated more than ever to show his new club and the supporters what he can bring to the table.

Speaking to Celtic TV exclusively, Elhamed said: “It’s a fantastic feeling. It was very exciting for me. It was amazing to walk out and see all the people in the stadium. I like it so much and it’s left me motivated to improve myself and show that I deserve to be here.

“It was a good performance. I arrived at half-time and watched the second half. It was good football, the atmosphere was amazing and I hope to join them very soon. I hope I can make a good impression on the fans.

“I went into the dressing room after the game and said hello to everybody. They were very kind and I’m expecting my first training session on Friday. My family are so proud of me. This is a big club and it’s great to be part of this club.”

He added: “I’m waiting for my first game to prove that I deserve to be part of such a big club like Celtic. It was about a month-and-a-half ago that my agent spoke with me and told me Celtic were interested, and I did everything I could to come here.

“I spoke with Nir Bitton. He is my friend and he said very good words about people here, which was great for me. Nir and I were together for a few years at Ashdod, but we also played together in the youth national team and the senior national team so we are good friends. It helps. He can tell me a lot of things and help with a lot of things, especially with my family.”

While he has a lot to prove to his detractors within the Celtic support, many others will give the Arab-Israeli time to not only settle in and find his feet but time to learn the Celtic way and prove his worth.

After all Ryan Christie was rubbished and deemed ‘not Celtic class’ by some before starring last season.
