Former Rangers midfielder Thomas Buffel has tipped Celtic new bhoy Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo to go down a storm in the Scottish Premiership, following his £3 million signing from Rapid Vienna.

Buffel, who spent three years with the Ibrox side, waxed lyrical about his fellow countryman to the Daily Record claiming that Mbombo will ‘excite the Celtic fans’.

He said: “Boli did very well at Club Brugge. He is an offensive wing-back and plays on the wing and he is very fast.

“He has great speed and he is a very athletic type. Boli uses his speed in a good way and that is vitally important.

“He is a player who will excite the Celtic fans as he likes to get forward and put crosses into the penalty box.

“Boli functions better when he plays in a system where he can be deployed in an attacking
full-back role.

“He is also a very committed player and the Celtic fans will see for themselves that he has passion and he will not give up even when he loses the ball. That is a trait that Scottish football supporters like very much.”

Former Hearts Scottish Cup winner Thomas Flogel also praised Mbombo to the hilt and believes that the £3 million price tag is great value for money for a player that will go from strength to strength.

He commented: “I watched Boli virtually every week for Rapid Vienna, either live or on TV, and he was a good impact player. He had some problems adapting to Austrian football at first but by the end he was playing very well.

“He can do even more than he has already shown for Rapid Vienna. He is very offensive, very fast and he plays a high line."

With Mbombo signing, talk of Kieran Tierney leaving the club this summer have intensified with Arsenal and Napoli still in the frame to sign the Celtic full back, with the Scottish champions holding out for the right price. Although the player has remained silent on the prospect of leaving the club as he recovers from double hernia surgery.
