Lying McGarry strikes again over Kieran Tierney claims
Just a few weeks ago self-styled football transfer consultant Ian McGarry claimed that Scotland captain Andy Robertson had told Kieran Tierney to quit Celtic. That was outed as a lie by Robertson himself, but rather than learning his lesson McGarry is at it again.
Despite Tierney not trying to force a move away from Celtic nor indicating he is ‘anything other than happy’ at his boyhood club, McGarry is claiming that the 22-year-old is ‘torn’ between staying at Celtic or moving to Arsenal.
The football consultant also claimed that he thinks Tierney will see himself as ‘not wanted or not valued enough’ by Celtic because of their ‘desire to cash in on him’ - despite knocking back two multi-million pound bids for him.
Arsenal have yet to meet Celtic’s valuation with the two previous deals dismissed as quickly as they were lodged. The first offer, an insulting £15 million, was rejected last month and their improved £25 million bid - which was structured with not-guaranteed add-ons - was also rejected with Celtic keen not to sell one of their prized assets on the cheap.
The 22-year-old Scotland International is currently recovering from a double hernia operation at the end of last season and has yet to play for Celtic this season - either pre-season or in the Champions League qualifiers - with him expected to be out for another month or so.
McGarry then used Celtic’s dealings with Moussa Dembele as some litmus test for Tierney’s potential transfer away from the Scottish Champions - forgetting that Dembele forced a move away from Celtic after broken promises from former manager Brendan Rodgers.
He added: “I think there’s a great deal of work still to be done in terms of Arsenal meeting the valuation. I don’t think there’s gonna be any problem whatsoever in upgrading Tierney’s contract significantly in terms of his wages.
“I think the boy’s kind of torn. He’s very much Celtic born and bred. He’s still young, so he can move at any point in the next two or three years should he choose to. But then again Celtic, they did it with Moussa Dembele, didn’t they?
“They cashed in when his value was at its highest, a record transfer fee for a player moving out of Scotland of £19.9m. Tierney is gonna go for probably £10m more than that.
“Celtic clearly want to cash in on the player, that changes the player’s mind as he sees himself as not wanted or not valued enough, and obviously they’ve already bought another left-back - Romelu Lukaku’s cousin. So you can see things falling into place.”
Again, McGarry fails to mention that Celtic do not need to sell Tierney, nor does manager Neil Lennon see Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo as Tierney’s replacement. Celtic have one left back, Tierney, following the departure of Emilio izaguirre at the end of last season after his contract expired - so they were in need of strengthening the position as they are currently using Jonny Hayes as a stand-in left back.
Whether Tierney does eventually leave Celtic or remains is a side issue to McGarry’s constant claims that he knows exactly what is going on with Tierney and those around him. His lies have already caught up with him and yet the Scottish mainstream media still roll him out to discuss Tierney’s transfer saga - not because he is in the know, but because they need to be seen to think they know what is going on. Which they don’t.
With Tierney contracted until 2023 at Celtic Park, the club holds all the cards and even if Arsenal or for that matter Napoli match the club’s valuation of the player - there is no guarantee that Tierney would move on this summer, especially with the prospect of nine and ten-in-a-row on the horizon and the captaincy once Scott Brown retires.
As for Ian McGarry his continued lies show him up for what he truly is. Another ITK walloper online who knows hee haw.
